After many years of a casual cooperation with several members of the ISO TC68/WG4 on ISO20022 metamodel and profile, Montages decided to step up its activities. ISO20022 work is groundbreaking since it unifies all(!) financial messaging standards, except FIX and FpML in one standard. As a first contribution, Quentin Glineur of Montages applied his domain know how on bridging from metamodels to UML2 profiles, to demo the feasibility of such a bridge for ISO20022. While the connection from the metamodel to the UML2 Profile is officially described as over 80 pages of natural language, with this approach, the connection is model, being an instance of our Metamodel2Profile bridge-metamodel.

As a next step, we will make the ISO20022 metamodel instantiable, using standard EMF and OCL framworks, as well as our table editor, which simply allows to see/edit the properties more conveniently.

Based on the outcome of this work, domain experts from any banking domain whose messages are defined with ISO20022 based specifications will be able to create, discuss, and validate example business situations using the formally specified terminology, without having to wait, that their organization implemented the ISO20022 fundamentals. As well, they do not need to rely on people being able to use UML2 tooling, but are guided in an inteligent way through the creation of exactly the concepts of the ISO20022 metamodel.

The original input to the countless ISO20022 based message formats (over 1000 are expected in the not so distant future!) came as well from such banking experts. Based on our planned work, they will first time see the results of their contributions to standards directly, and not only after years of delay in client specific as well as custom developed software packages.

To achieve such a rule changing effect, Montages decided that not only the ISO20022 metamodel and profile must be carefully covered, but as well an existing set of ISO20022 based message definitions.

Montages therefore seeks expertize on one or two concrete fields of ISO20022 based message definitions, such as Credits, Portfolio Management, or Clearing and Settlement. As well we offer student internships to learn EMF/OCL modeling technologies, and suport the experts which will help us with their expertize.
